Shooting Attack At Jerusalem’s Temple Mount; 3 Injured



Police reported three terrorists killed on Friday morning. Muslim Friday prayers cancelled, gates to the Old City of Jerusalem closed.
Three terrorists opened fire on a group of policemen near Lion’s Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City on Friday morning wounding three before the attackers were killed by police, the Israel Police and paramedics said.
The assailants, who were residents of Umm al-Fahm, near Haifa, fled to the Temple Mount where they were killed by police officers and guns were found in their possession, according to police spokeswoman Luba Samri.
The incident, which took place shorty after 7:00 a.m., is the second attack at Jerusalem’s Old City within the past month and resulted in the closure of the Temple Mount to Muslim worshipers on Friday.
Magen David Adom reported three Israeli males in their 30s were injured, two are now in critical condition, and one was lightly injured by shrapnel and is fully conscious. The two critically wounded men were taken to Hadassah University Medical Center. The one who was lightly injured was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Police are investigating how the assailants were able to get the weapons, which included a handgun, two Carlo Gustav rifles, and knife, past strict security. The identities of the assailants are currently under censor.

Jerusalem chief of Police Yoram Halevi has ordered the Temple mount closed, evacuated, and Friday prayers cancelled. All gates to the Old City of Jerusalem had been closed.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and security chiefs from IDF, Shin Bet and Police following the attack. During the meeting the decision was made to close the Mount for the entire duration of the day due to security reasons. Security forces are conducting searches for weapons on the Temple Mount
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan called the attack a “red line” which will “require us to examine the security arrangements on the Temple Mount and around it.”

Shocked and horrified by the despicable attack today in Jerusalem. Terrorism must be condemned by all and defeated. We pray for the victims.

Thursday’s attack comes nearly a month after border police officer St.-Sgt. Maj. 
Hadas Malka, 23, was stabbed to death by a Palestinian assailant next to Jerusalem’s Damascus gate.Hamas television Al Aksa called the attack a ‘heroic act’ but Hamas has not yet claimed responsibility for it.
