A 27-year old California man named Kesaun Sykes was just sentenced to death for the brutal killing of an Iraq War veteran and his new wife. (H/T Opposing Views)
In 2008, Sykes and three other men broke into the home of Jan Pietrzak and his wife of two months, Qiana. What began as a robbery turned into a horrific rape and double murder.
The four thugs forced Pietrzak to watch as they took turns raping his wife. When they were finished raping the woman, and after a failed attempt to burn the house down while they were still alive inside, both victims were shot in the head execution style.
Two of the three other accomplices to the rape and murder have already been given death sentences, while a fourth was given life without parole.
The Deputy District Attorney who prosecuted the case had no reservations about pursuing the death penalty. Daniel DeLimon said, “He earned his place on death row. If people are still alive, and you’re trying to burn the house down on top of them, obviously, you are in, you are in all the way.”
Sykes’ lawyer, Doug Myers, disagrees though, saying “A death sentence for Kesaun, who was not the actual killer, who did not direct the killings, and who was exposed to such awful abuse and neglect throughout most of his life, was not warranted.”
While the death sentence for these atrocious actions is certainly a step towards justice, unfortunately it is still California, where there is something of a moratorium on the death penalty. Sykes will likely sit in prison on Death Row for years and years on end, at the expense of the taxpayer, when he could be simply taken out back and placed in front of a firing squad, truly serving justice for the families of the victims, and saving the taxpayers an untold sum of money keeping this scumbag alive.
Please share this on Facebook and Twitter if you agree that years on end of this thug sitting on Death Row is justice unserved, and he should be put to death at the earliest convenience of the court.
